Who We Are
Our History
and Values

NOTE: We use the word "Deaf" as an inclusive term for all Deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, and late-deafened children.
Our Values
Language Access - Every Deaf child deserves fully accessible language from birth, with access to American Sign Language (ASL) recognized as a basic right.
Inclusion – Families, educators, and communities play a vital role in creating accessible and equitable environments where Deaf children can experience true belonging.
Empowerment – Deaf children and their families deserve to have the resources, knowledge, and support to make informed decisions about language and education.
Diversity – Society thrives on diverse cultures and languages. Deaf children should have the opportunity to celebrate their identity and grow with confidence.
Equity & Advocacy – Challenging the barriers that lead to language deprivation and advocating for policies that support the language and education rights of Deaf children.
Community & Connection – Building strong, supportive networks among Deaf children, their families, the Deaf community, and others who sign.

Our History
Founded in 1993 by four determined mothers, Family Network for Deaf Children (FNDC) was created to address a gap in support services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. What began as a grassroots effort grew into a registered non-profit (1995) and Canadian charity (1998).
Our Vision
To see every Deaf child reach their full potential in an accessible world that embraces American Sign Language (ASL).
Our Mission
We work to eliminate language barriers and empower Deaf children and their families: sharing knowledge, providing support, and creating American Sign Language (ASL)-rich environments where Deaf children can learn, grow, and thrive.
Our Programs
FNDC offers family events, parent support, workshops, networking opportunities, advocacy, and information sharing—plus the highlight of the year: Family Deaf Camp. Families connect with our inspiring DYT staff, and other families with Deaf children. Whether you’re just starting this journey or have been on it for years, there’s something here for you.
Our Deaf Youth Today (DYT) summer program creates immersive ASL-rich experiences through day camps, overnight camps, youth leadership training, and employment opportunities for Deaf youth. And it doesn’t stop in summer—DYT also runs events and programs throughout the year to keep Deaf youth engaged and growing.
Our Community
Deaf children and youth thrive when they feel they belong. Community means connection—to language, culture, peers, mentors, families and professionals who understand. We’re committed to creating spaces where ASL is celebrated, Deaf kids see themselves reflected, and families feel supported. Together, we build the village that raises confident, connected, and proud Deaf children.
Our DEIA Goals
We value Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in our operations, programs, and services, and are committed to developing stronger DEIA policies in the context of the Deaf experience.
