Your child will have an opportunity to learn proper swim techniques, so they are safer and more comfortable in the water.
Morning - Our morning swim lessons will help campers discover confidence and joy in the water without the fear and distraction that can come with large, crowded swim classes. Highly trained instructors will work alongside our DYT staff so that throughout the lessons your child can stay focused on learning to swim.
Afternoon – Campers will participate in a variety of fun activities on and off site.

Explorations Week will offer our campers rich and diverse activities within a dynamic and safe environment. Our thoughtfully structured program includes a day to explore at Science World, a fishing lesson at Lafarge Lake, art and water activities, as well as play and social time outdoors.

MINI THEATRE GROUP (Younger ages): Younger campers will be introduced to fun, interactive drama activities lead by experienced Deaf Mentors. The camp will allow your child to unleash their creativity through movement, improvisation, ASL, and dance. Acting instruction gives your child will have an opportunity to work with Deaf Actors and Mentors, and as part of the overall theatre experience, campers are often involved in a short live performance at the end of the week.

DYT will be working in collaboration with Windsure at Jericho Beach to introduce the campers to 3 days of Adventure Watersports! We will be traveling to Jericho Beach each day and campers will receive lessons from Windsure Trained Staff.
In surfing’s new twist, kids can try Stand up Paddleboarding. They will be taught the proper technique of paddling and gain the skills and confidence in this new and safe environment. All Campers will also have the opportunity to try Skimboarding and learn the proper technique of “Throwing” the board and skimming across the sand. They will be introduced to maneuvers such as “180’s” and “shuvits”.
Age 12 to 15 year old campers will have an introductory lesson to Windsurfing and learn basic skills on windsurfing stance, uphaul, equipment care, tack to return to shore, steering, landing, basic sailing, and safety standards. While the older campers try out the Windsurf lesson, the younger campers will experience a fun Canoeing lesson and trip. This program is suited for anyone with a desire to have fun and try something new.
*An active on the water rescue team will be on site and available during all lessons. Safety is the main priority at Windsure and DYT.
** This session is for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children/youth only. Siblings / CODA children spot will be open on June 1, 2019. Depending on the number we get from Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children/youth.

Hero Week will be both on and off-site at Burnaby South. This camp will introduce campers to a variety of fun activities and education about our local and historic Police Department as well as an introduction to Knighthood and medieval times.
All campers will have an opportunity to experience what it would be like to be a KNIGHT. Kids will participate in medieval games, swordplay, daggers, and wrestling. Kids will be introduced to sparring (controlled practice sword fights, with protective equipment). Everyone uses properly weighted and balanced synthetic swords.
Campers will visit the Police Museum and participate in a guided tour with hands-on activities in the Mini Police Academy and “Break and Enter” Event! This program will combine museum discovery scavenger hunt, “show and tell” to introduce campers to policing, dress-up time in police uniforms and art activities. Opportunities to visit with a police officer, and experience some of the aspects of the Police department including the K9 unit and a Police Jail cell at the VPD.
