British Columbia Resources

A strong voice for British Columbia's Deaf Community, the BCCSD host a number of fantastic events throughout the year.

The BC Deaf Sports Federation hosts a number of events in the community throughout the year. This is a great way to get out and meet people in the local Deaf community.

R.E. Mountain Senior Secondary School in Langley, BC offers a secondary level Deaf & Hard of Hearing Provincial Resource Program.


The provincial government of British Columbia funds a Medical Interpreting Service to its Deaf and Hard of Hearing citizens. The program is run out of the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

British Columbia's chapter affiliate of the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada. If you are looking for a professional interpreter, visit this site by clicking on the "interpreting hands" to the left. Members of the Deaf community (including parents of Deaf children) are given free postings to the WAVLI listserve which reaches over 100 interpreters in British Columbia. Douglas College Interpreting Student Volunteers

If you feel that your needs could be met by a student interpreter, please call Douglas College (e-mail: intr@douglas.bc.ca) 604-527-5552 - choose option 1 (voice) or 604-527-5133 (TTY). Requests must be made 2 weeks in advance of the event in order to coordinate schedules. All requests must be screened by a faculty member for appropriateness to students' skill levels.
